Weekly Challenges

1. Mamavation #fruitnveggie challenge. Get 7-8 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.

Serving sizes per Dr. Renna
Grains, 1 serving size =1/2 cup pasta=1/3 cup rice=1 slice bread=1/2 cup oatmeal. A bagel can be up to 5 servings of grains depending on the size.

The following fat sources are not recommended: peanut oil, corn oil OR palm oil.

Calculating salad for veggies is different. 1 cup of salad=1/2 serving, so 2 cups of salad=1 serving. No iceberg lettuce. Deep red or green leaves preferred. Watch out for the dressing. Try using your fork to dip into dressing before you eat salad instead. You'll use less

2. Water challenge. Strive to drink more water. Some moms are striving to drink half their body weight in water. For instance if you weigh 180, strive to drink 90 ounces of water per day.

How to describe your workouts:

Rate Perceived Exertion (monitor how hard you’re working)
RPE 1-2 Very easy, you can talk without any effort.
RPE 3: Easy, you can almost talk without any effort
RPE 4 Moderately easy, you can talk comfortably talk without effort
RPE 5 Moderate, requires some effort to talk
RPE 6 moderately hard, requires a bit of effort to talk
RPE 7 Difficult, requires a lot of effort to talk
RPE 8 Very difficult requires maximum effort to talk.
RPE 9-10 Maximum effort, no talking

Tracey Mallett’s Interval Training Safety Tips
1. Always make sure your body is warmed up before going into an interval. Try walking or running for 5 minutes prior to starting the intervals.

2. Listen to your body and work within your own limits. Even though an interval is high intensity, you should still be able to string words together.

3. Set reasonable goals. For example if you’re new to this form of activity, walk for 2 minutes run for 2 minutes build up gradually.

4. In the interval keep a challenging pace. On a scale of 1-10 RPE, you should be about a 7-8 RPE.

5. Slow your pace down considerably in the rest period to give your body time to recover.
